Information

The purpose of this blog:
This blog has no remit. That’s not to say that there are no limits — the purpose of this blog is not to document the author’s every movement through the cosmos. Instead, it intends to provide information and an area for discussion on an undefined set of topics.

Not everything here will be of interest to everyone. Some of it may well be of interest to no-one. But, with any luck, you will find something worthy of your attention, if only for a short time. And if not, please accept my apologies.

About the author:
My name is Alexis Birkill, and I am a 25 year old software developer. In my spare time I work for IBM at Hursley, in the UK. In case there was any doubt, anything published here is my opinion alone, and doesn’t necessarily represent IBM’s positions, strategies or opinions.

If you’re wondering what I look like, here’s a photo. Like most of the photographs on this site, it’s from my Flickr stream, and you can click on it to see the photo on Flickr.

About the name:
I can claim no credit for the name of this site - I shamelessly pinched it from Douglas Adams. Not from his well-known ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ trilogy, but from the less well-known, but equally excellent, ‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency’:

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable. Let us grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.
